Pousada History:
Built in the forty’s and launched by the National Secretary of Propaganda, Dr. António Ferro, Pousada S. Brás is with no doubt in a privileged location to get to know the Algarve.
Designed by the Architect Miguel Jacobetty, Pousada S. Brás is one of the first seven Pousadas to appear in Portugal. The Pousada started with 5 rooms, then had 14 rooms and, in 1997, enlarged to 33.
This is the spot where days drift by with serenity, nested in the beautiful warm-earth tones of the country and complemented by the deep blue in the horizon (Ria Formosa).
But what is most impressing in the new state building is the curved shapes and white walls resembling to schools from another time, it conserved with the regional architecture styles and decorated in same manor gastronomy.
Peace and tranquillity allied make a very warm and special welcoming. This Pousada is the extension between home and country.
History of S. Brás de Alportel:
S. Brás council is the youngest of the Algarve, located in the centre of the Algarve, between the hills and the sea. S. Brás is near to Tavira, Loulé, Faro and Olhão. It is constituted by just one parish and has 40 different localities in its territory.
Weather wise, its closeness to the Caldeirão Mountain and the Barrocal Mountain, give S. Brás the ideal weather conditions for idyllically holidays. For this reason, it was built in 1918 a very important heath medical house, “Sanatório Carlos Vasconcelos”.
The Cork Industry is one of the most remarkable symbols in this area since the XIX century, for the importance it has to the national industry, and for its high percentage of 60 % of the national cork production. Speaking of regional events, the Mountain Fear must not be missed, being held locally at S. Brás This event becomes a celebration of colours flavours and tradition for 3 days.
We may also mention the Algarve’s Costume Museum, the local Church and the beautiful “Verbena” Garden, where there are municipal swimming-pools and a pleasant place to rest.
Visiting S. Brás is the best way to get to know and enjoy the marvels and wonders of the Algarve.
